The Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Unit is a specialist state-wide public sector rehabilitation service for clients who have an acquired brain injury resulting in cognitive and/ or behavioural difficulties. The facility offers up to 12 beds within a secure setting located at Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre. 

The Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre (RTRC) is a campus of Austin Health located on the Yarra Boulevard in Kew.  Royal Talbot provides inpatient and ambulatory programs for people with spinal cord injury, acquired brain injury, neurological impairment, orthopaedic surgery, amputees and general rehabilitation. 

Nursing staff on the ABI Unit work in close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to provide expert evidenced based care, aiming to assist patients and families in reaching their maximum potential

About the role:  

As an Austin Health Nurse you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of evidence-based nursing care in designated medical specialties, in order to optimize health outcomes for the community. 

Key responsibilities will see you: 

  • Support a philosophy of care, which is patient focused, from admission to discharge, and where the family is welcome in the carers team  
  • Ensure the well-being and safety of patients by following the values and principles, which underpin best practice in relation to patient care, education and patient rights  
  • Achieve and maintain the skills necessary, through personal professional development, to plan, prioritize and implement holistic patient care  

About you:

You’ll further have: 

  • Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Registered Nurse registration 
  • Minimum twelve months acute/ sub-acute care clinical experience post initial registration as a Registered Nurse  
  • The ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form  A commitment to quality, best practice and environmental safety
