Position Summary

Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic Nuclear Medicine Research Fellow to join our Nuclear Medicine Department in 2019.

Details of Department

The Department of Molecular Imaging and Therapy is active in the development of new scans for the early diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.  The neuroscience Molecular Imaging Research team is currently studying areas that include beta-amyloid and tau imaging in aging and dementia, dopaminergic neuronal imaging in Parkinson's disease and muscarinic receptor imaging in schizophrenia.  The group has active collaborations with the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health (FINMH), CSIRO, and European, Japanese and US based research groups and the pharmaceutical industry.  It publishes over 20 papers per year in major journals such as Neurology and Lancet Neurology. Details of position/position requirements

The position is ideal for people with a background in Imaging, Neurology, Psychiatry or Gerontology who wish to pursue an academic career and have an interest in dementia.

Preference will be given to applicants who wish to pursue a higher research degree through the University of Melbourne or elsewhere.

To be successful in this role you must:

  • Be able to assist with the research work being undertaken
  • Be committed to high quality research
  • be able to attend the University's PET facility
  • Be able to supervise and monitor research subjects
