Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.
An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic Anaesthesia Registrar to join the Department of Anaesthesia from February 2023.
Details of Department
The Department of Anaesthesia comprises of 36 full-time Staff Anaesthetists, 72 Visiting Anaesthetists, 23 Anaesthesia Registrars, 12 Anaesthesia Provisional Fellows, 6 Critical Care HMOs, 4 Research Nurses, 3 Pain Nurses, 4 Anaesthesia Resource Nurses, and 4 Administrative Staff.
Most surgical specialties, with the exception of obstetrics and complex paediatric surgery, are undertaken at the Austin and are covered by the Department. Surgical specialties include thoracic, cardiac, neurosurgery, hepatobiliary, upper GI, colorectal, general, orthopedic, ENT, plastics, maxillofacial, ophthalmology, urology, gynaecology and vascular. The Austin is a state-wide referral center for liver transplantation and spinal injuries.
Austin Health also has a Pain Service encompassing acute and chronic pain.
Details of position/position requirements
The program involves providing anaesthesia services under appropriate supervision by Specialist Anaesthetists as arranged by the Director or delegated Anaesthetist responsible for rosters.
Trainees will be available to undertake rotational appointments to the hospitals within the North West Training Scheme. The North West Training Scheme incorporates Austin Health, The Northern Hospital (Epping), Ballarat Hospital, Mercy Hospital for Women, Peter MacCallum, Western Health, The Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Royal Children's Hospital, Werribee Mercy Hospital and the Royal Women's Hospital.
The Department has a comprehensive tutorial program for both Par I and Part II examinations.
To be successful in this role you should have completed 3 years post-graduate year i.e., intern, HMO2 and HMO3. It is preferred for candidates to have a minimum of 3 months previous anaesthesia experience.
