About the role

A rare, senior leadership opportunity is available to an experienced candidate to back fill an internal secondment. The Director is accountable for leading three teams which includes the HR Business Partners, Organisational Development (OD) and Employee Relations (ER). It is a member of the People & Culture Leadership team, and reports to the Chief People and Culture Officer. The position also provides support to the CP&CO on the implementation of the people strategy and key P&C projects.

A regular day will see you:

  • Ensure the ER, Partnering and OD teams are aligned, focused on organisational priorities, and collaborate on the delivery of consistent services to the organisation.
  • Lead the Employee Relations function ensuring the delivery of case management services and employee and industrial relations issues are optimised to best manage organisational risk and support the needs of Austin Health
  • Lead the delivery or HR Business Partnering services to support senior leadership teams and deliver organisational change and people processes.
  • Build an organisation-wide view of leadership, and oversee the delivery and maturing of Austin Health’s leadership development offerings.
  • Collaborate as a member of the P&C leadership team to deliver the People Strategy and organisational priorities
  • Provide clear, contemporary advice to the CEO, Executive, People & Culture and other senior stakeholders on significant matters, and lead high risk and high-profile cases through to an appropriate conclusion.
  • Ensure Austin Health has a suitable employee listening strategy in place that utilises appropriate tools/technology to support employee engagement, development, and retention.
  • Lead the implementation of the Austin Health workforce planning tool across the organisation to identify future workforce needs and develop plans.
  • Lead negotiations with unions and similar bodies on a range of complex issues and disputes and notify relevant stakeholders and external bodies of potential industrial claims.
  • Ensure the effective and compliant implementation of all new Enterprise Bargaining Agreements including providing briefings and information to ensure leaders and employees are informed as required.

To be successful in this role you'll bring with you:

  • Experience leading relevant P&C teams in a complex, unionised environment.
  • Ability to foster strong relationships with senior leaders and influence stakeholders, providing strategic and operational counsel.
  • Deep subject matter expertise in employment law, the Fair Work Act, Award and EA interpretation, and the Australian employment framework.
  • Demonstrable experience developing and leading change in a complex environment.
  • Strong people leadership capability – with a demonstrable record of building strong and supportive teams.
  • Ability to lead through ambiguity, confident in ability to make decisions and problem-solve
  • Strong writing skills and experience preparing papers for boards.
  • Relevant tertiary education in Human Resources, Business, Employment Law or Organisational Psychology/Development
