Position Summary

Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

An exciting new leadership opportunity currently exists to lead our Patient Safety and Clinical Excellence team.  This senior leadership role will take the lead in achieving our strategic goal of becoming   the safest health service in Australia and drive our organisations focus on patient safety and clinical excellence. 

The Patient Safety and Clinical Excellence Unit is located within the Directorate of the Chief Medical Officer and provides leadership and oversight of systems and processes that enable the delivery of safe, effective and appropriate care for our patients.  The Patient Safety and Clinical Excellence Unit is based at the Austin Hospital campus and provides support across all campuses of Austin Health.

The Director of Patient Safety and Clinical Excellence will provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure safe that high quality patient care is consistently delivered, monitored and improved across Austin Health. This role will have oversight of systems improvement to support our staff to deliver safe, effective and appropriate care that results in high quality clinical care outcomes. 

We would love to hear from you if you have demonstrated experience in: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in health or related field, and a minimum of 5 years appropriate recent experience in a health-related field
  • Post graduate qualifications in health, business or management at a Masters level or working towards a relevant qualification
  • Extensive experience in successfully leading and implementing a patient safety and/or clinical quality improvement program within a large and complex healthcare setting
  • Proven leadership style that is engaging and inclusive with a demonstrated ability to influence, inspire and motivate teams. 
  • Proven ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders  to achieve change and strategic outcomes
  • Extensive experience in successfully leading and implementing a patient safety and/or clinical quality improvement program within a large and complex healthcare setting.
  • Experience in leading and managing a complex health service/function
  • The translation of strategic priorities into business plans and outcomes
