Position Summary

There is a current vacancy for an ongoing full time (40 hours per week with ADO) Grade 3 Scientist for the role of ‘Respiratory Scientist/Fit Test Coordinator ’ in the Respiratory Laboratory, Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at the Austin Hospital.   

The Austin Respiratory Laboratory is a centre for excellence. As part of a teaching hospital, this large clinical laboratory service performs a comprehensive range of patient testing. The laboratory plays a cornerstone role in the department and has links to the wider hospital service as well as having links to other clinical services and academic institutions. It provides services to the state-wide Victorian Respiratory Support Service and has a proud association with the Institute for Breathing and Sleep.  

This vacancy represents an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and suitably qualified scientist to jointly oversee the cardiopulmonary exercise testing service and to coordinate the FIT testing service in collaboration with the Respiratory Protection Program Coordinator. Coordination will include the day-to-day operation of the Fit Testing Service and contribution to the review, enhancement, and reporting of the service.   As part of the cardiopulmonary exercise testing service, exercise testing, lung function testing and participation in the quality assurance program will be required.

The successful applicant will have substantial relevant or translatable experience and enjoy the combination of technical, inter-personal, clinical and physiology skills required for the position and be able to work outside normal hours, at times, to ensure adequate accessibility of the service for all staff.  

Fit testing experience is desirable, although full training can be provided.
