Position Summary

Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

An exciting opportunity currently exists for multiple fixed term positions for experienced Registered Nurses - Division 1 or Endorsed Enrolled Nurses - Division 2 to join our ward - 6 South.

6 South is an acute oncology & urology ward based within the Olivia Newton John Centre. It is a 24 bed ward that flexes anywhere up to 32 beds as required, to assist Austin Health with the demands of increased activity. 6 South specialises in the following tumour streams: Gastrointestinal, Genitourinary, Breast, Thyroid and Endocrine.

During the period of the additional flex beds opening, a range of different units will attend 6 South including medical and other surgical units.

These roles will give the successful applicants the opportunity to specialise in surgical or oncological nursing while still having exposure to the other.

Joining 6South, you can expect a highly professional multi-disciplinary team with support to expand and develop skills in a multitude of areas.

To be successful in this role you must demonstrate/Key responsibilities will include:

Essential for Performance in the Position

  • Registered Nurse, Division 1 (General) or Endorsed Enrolled Nurse, Division 2 - AHPRA
  • A minimum of one year acute nursing experience 
  • Commitment to quality, best practice and environmental safety, including participation in the organisational and local mandatory training requirements
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of professional standards
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
  • Patient/consumer focused approach to care delivery
  • Ability to problem solve in a variety of situations
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility in working hours

Desirable but not essential for Performance in the Position

  • Clinical experience in Surgical and/or Oncology Nursing
  • A sound understanding of information technology including clinical systems and applications relevant to clinical care of patients (i.e. Cerner, Medtrak, Kronos)
  • Experience and proficiency in keyboarding and Computer skills.
  • Post Graduate Qualifications, or working towards same, in a Surgical or Oncology Discipline
