Position Summary

Manager, Business Continuity and Emergency Planning

  • Part time (22.8hrs) permanent role

Austin Health seeks an experience emergency management and business continuity professional to oversee the strategic direction, planning and resourcing requirements for emergency preparedness across a broad range of circumstance with the potential to adversely impact the ability of Austin Health to deliver business as usual clinical operations.

Key role responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of a co-ordinated Business Continuity, Emergency & Crisis Management system consistent with AS 3745 – 2010 Planning for Emergencies in Facilities and AS 4083 - 2010 Planning for Emergencies- Health Care Facilities (including SHERP). 
  • Coordinate disaster response or crisis management training events/exercises, such as facilitating complex evacuations and implementing special needs plans and programs (such as EmergoTrain system exercise). 
  • Support the Hospital Commander and Hospital Incident Management Team in their planning, preparation and execution of their roles.
  • Ensure management systems, processes and procedures are revised and aligned with relevant Australian Standards.
  • Establish and maintain reporting mechanisms to monitor effectiveness of Austin Health’s business continuity, emergency & crisis Management systems and report monthly to the Executive on effectiveness. 
  • Design, develop and perform tests and evaluations/audits of internal emergency management plans in accordance with relevant Australian Standards and SHERP requirements.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification and significant experience in business continuity planning/ emergency management or related field.
  • Cert IV in training and assessment (not essential).
  • Excellent working knowledge of AS 3745 – 2010 Planning for Emergencies in Facilities, AS 4083 -2010 Planning for Emergencies- Health Care Facilities and State Health Emergency Response Plan.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the issues and priorities involved in delivering business continuity and emergency management planning whilst maintaining continuous operation of business-critical systems of a complex nature (clinical operations within a healthcare facility).
  • Demonstrate ability to adapt to a changing environment and demonstrate initiative within it.
  • Demonstrate ability to develop and deliver emergency preparedness training programs to all levels of an organisation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
