Opportunities exist for highly motivated graduates to join the Austin Health Radiation Oncology Team in 2019. Austin Health offers the opportunity to complete your Supervised Practice Program (SPP) year in a progressive and personable environment, fulfilling academic requirements for accreditation as a qualified RT.

 

Austin Health is a tertiary teaching hospital overseen by an independent Metropolitan Health Board. Austin Health operates two Radiotherapy Centres, with both centres providing supportive and integrated cancer care. Our Metropolitan site is located at the Olivia Newton John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre. Our regional site, Ballarat Austin Radiation Oncology Centre (BAROC) is located within the Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre (BRICC).

 

The Radiation Oncology department at ONJ Centre operates three Elekta Linacs, including one Versa HD with Brainlab ExacTrac & two with Agility 160 leaf MLCs, Cone Beam CT, kV/MV 2D imaging and HexaPOD six degree of freedom couch tops.  Treatment planning is supported by a dedicated Siemens and GE wide bore CT scanner and GateCT (4DCT), utilising the CMS XiO planning system in conjunction with CMS Monaco. The Austin is proud to be at the forefront in Australia when adopting new technologies and runs sophisticated IMRT and IGRT programs.  An electronic (paperless) environment is supported by the Elekta MOSAIQ patient management system. The ONJ centre also provides comprehensive Stereotactic and Brachytherapy programs and will resume Superficial and Deep X-ray services in the near future.  The ONJ Centre is a comprehensive cancer centre encompassing Medical Oncology, Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute, cancer and palliative care wards and a unique Wellness Centre offering a relaxing atmosphere and a range of wellness programs for all patients and their carers.

 

BAROC within BRICC is a unique state of the art Radiation Oncology Centre featuring 2x Varian Trilogy Linear accelerators - with FFF mode, OBI, Protura six degree of freedom couch tops, Varian Real-Time Position Management and Varian VMAT.

Planning is facilitated by a Siemens definition AS 64 CT suite and a complete Elekta planning system. Integration of oncology services within BRICC delivers Medical Oncology, Clinical Trials, and a Wellness centre operating in a fully paperless, ARIA CCS Oncology Information System. The BRICC is focused on improving patient services and outcomes with innovation, research and development highlighted by the use of Deep Inspiration Breath Hold (DIBH) technique for Left side breast cancer patients, use of dynamic MLC, SABR program, and VMAT.

 

Both the ONJ Centre at the Austin Campus and BRICC provide a comprehensive service and have the capacity for expansion of cancer services in the future with 4 bunkers. These new, purpose built and state-of-the-art centres provide a patient focussed environment and offer the incumbent numerous exciting development opportunities as we forge our new wellness focused model of care.

 

Requirements

The successful candidates will be working within a dynamic team providing numerous developments and learning opportunities ensuring a comprehensive SPP year. Applicants should have a passion for learning, well developed communication and interpersonal skills, with an enthusiasm for professional development. Successful completion of a Bachelor in Medical Radiation Therapy through an accredited university is essential.
