Position Summary

Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced mental health clinician to join our Adolescent Inpatient Unit.

This position is located with the Adolescent Inpatient Unit. The unit has 11 beds, and is based at the Austin Hospital and admits adolescents who have turned 13 (but are not yet 18 years of age) for assessment and treatment. These young people may be experiencing emotional, behavioural and/or social difficulties and have usually had some outpatient treatment. A high proportion of the consumers are admitted in crisis. This position is for a case manager to provide assessment, treatment, and case management services to adolescents and their families.


To be successful in this role you must demonstrate

  • Displays a clear understanding of the principle of recovery orientated practice and its implementation within a clinical setting.
  • Provide direct service in the clinical assessment and treatment as well as general case management to Adolescents and families referred to the Adolescent Inpatient Unit.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate individual therapies.  
  • Provide discipline-specific service in the clinical assessment and treatment as well as general case management to Adolescents and families referred to the Adolescent Inpatient Unit.
  • Provide accurate, accessible and timely written records of clinical work, as required in CYMHS standards of documentation.
  • Report through regular supervision.
  • Provide secondary consultation to families, and to primary and other specialist service providers on behalf of the team.
  • Work well within a multi-disciplinary service team.
  • Assist in team and departmental research and evaluation activities, and to fill other portfolio responsibilities on behalf of the team and department as required.
  • Ensure a high level of work quality, develop, implement and monitor quality improvement activities within the department/ward, in accordance with Austin Health Policies as varied from time to time.
