Position Summary

Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced Clinical Psychologist to join our Health Independence Program in a fixed term part-time Grade 3 role (12 months) to cover maternity leave.  

The Senior Clinical Psychologist position will provide psychological services to clients with chronic and complex health conditions referred from other HIP programs. 

The HIP Psychology service is responsible for providing a limited, short-term psychology service for clients already engaged with other HIP Programs or services to support living at home. Direct psychology services are provided for clients who are experiencing psychological or emotional difficulties co-occurring with physical health issues, such as chronic illness or injury. Secondary consultation and support services are available for HIP staff working with clients who are experiencing psychological difficulties that may be negatively impacting engagement with services or treatment.

By demonstrating excellence in clinical care, the Grade 3 Psychologist will facilitate the delivery of a high quality, responsive service which is client-centred and focused on achieving best practice and optimising clients’ health outcomes.

Essential for performance in the Position: 

  • Minimum 5 years’ clinical experience post qualification, including experience in treating clients with complex chronic and complex health conditions.
  • Demonstrated clinical skills in psychological assessment, formulation, treatment and record keeping.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing supervision to psychologists and completion of training required by AHPRA for the conduct of supervision (AHPRA endorsed supervisor).
  • Client centered approach to service delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to a collaborative approach to client care and service development/delivery.
  • Demonstrated understanding of principles of service responsiveness to consumers and carers.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative, resourceful and adaptive to change.
  • Experience in hospital settings.
  • Well-developed workload and time management skills.
