An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced Radiation Oncologist to join our Radiation Oncology Depratment.

RADIATION ONCOLOGIST – Permanent

An exciting opportunity exists to join our team of dedicated Radiation Oncologists based at Olivia Newton John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre (ONJ Centre) at Austin Health.

Austin Health operates two Radiation Oncology centres in Victoria. The metropolitan hub at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre in Heidelberg, and BAROC in the custom-built Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre co-located with Grampians Health Services (GHS).  Across the two sites the service has 6 Linacs (8 bunkers), 2 CT Simulators, a dedicated MR Simulator, a clinical MR Linear Accelerator, a Nucletron HDR brachytherapy facility and two superficial radiotherapy units (ONJ Centre and Stawell). A further superficial unit is currently being installed at our BAROC site.  Radiation Oncologists, Radiation Therapists, Nurses and Physicists work collaboratively across both sites with respect to clinical peer review, research, quality assurance and implementation of new technology. We pride ourselves on providing world-class, patient-centred cancer care in consultation with our extensive network of public and private Medical Oncology and Surgical service providers.

This radiation oncologist position has the opportunity to be part of the state-wide MR Linear Accelerator Program as well as working as a general radiation oncologist based on the interests of the successful candidate.  The radiation oncologist would be expected to work collaboratively with Physicists, Radiation Therapists, MRI Technologists, Nurses and other members of our team.  We have a growing research team, with study co-ordinators, research radiation therapists, research principal physicists, biostatistics support and clinical research fellows.

Austin Health is a partner in the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre collaboration with world-class education and research opportunities.  Locally we have an extremely strong molecular imaging facility and Cancer Research Institute (ONJCRI).

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Medical Practitioners for the position of Radiation Oncologist at Austin Health. Candidates will ideally possess the following skills and personal attributes:

  • Comprehensive skills in all elements of clinical Radiation Oncology practice. The tumour site interests of the successful applicant are negotiable,
  • A focus on MR or Imaging in Radiotherapy would be advantageous
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously, whilst team work skills are also essential.
  • Ability to contribute positively the culture of a high-performance team.
  • A desire to provide world-class Oncology care driven by a strong patient-centred work ethic.

Applicants must hold current registration with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiology (RANZCR) or equivalent. A higher research degree, and a research track record would be viewed favourably.  There would be an expectation that the successful candidate would relocate to Melbourne which has been consistently scored as one of the world’s most liveable cities.

A highly competitive salary package, including rights to private practice will be offered to the successful applicant.
