Position Summary

Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced Community Engagement and Partnerships Lead to join our newly established North Eastern Public Health Unit (NEPHU).

The NEPHU is a major component of a once in a generation reform of public health delivery in Victoria.  This new system consists of three Melbourne metropolitan Public Health Units (North Eastern [NEPHU], Western [WPHU], and South Eastern [SEPHU]) who are linked with the existing six Regional Public Health Units, the DH Intelligence, Case, Contact and Outbreak Management (ICCOM) and COVID-19 Quarantine Victoria (CQV).  Together these units form a distributed network, centrally coordinated by ICCOM.

The NEPHU Community Engagement and Partnerships Lead is a key region wide leadership role responsible for the collaborative design and delivery of engagement, communication and partnership strategies that support effective public health interventions and outcomes.

With direction from the NEPHU Director and Operations Director and informed by an understanding of the needs and priorities of the community and the strengths of partners, the Community Engagement and Partnerships Lead will develop the NEPHU engagement and partnership framework and implement, evaluate and continuously improve it within the context of the overarching NEPHU strategic direction.

As part of the NEPHU regional leadership hub, the Community Engagement and Partnerships Lead will further develop and adapt the engagement framework, partnerships and pathways to support additional public health functions as the NEPHU expands over time.

To be successful in this role you must demonstrate:

  • Significant experience successfully engaging, communicating and managing relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, including government, health service and community groups
  • An ability to build trust and credibility, developing and maintaining constructive relationships through consistent, values-based actions and communications
  • Experience in public health promotion, prevention and protection activities
  • Knowledge and understanding of contemporary frameworks and approaches to community engagement
  • Demonstrated competence in a leadership role and the ability to unite people to achieve common objectives
  • Advanced interpersonal, liaison and negotiating skills with the ability to network effectively in the design and delivery of engagement and partnership initiatives
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems with capacity to identify needs and trends and create innovative solutions through collaboration and partnership.
