Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced Associate Nurse Unit Manager to join our 8 West team. 8 West care for patients under the  Gastroenterology, Transplantation and General Surgery Units

Ward 8 West is a 32 bed general surgery, liver transplant, intestinal transplant and gastroenterology ward. Our general surgical unit provides expertise in hepatopancreatobiliary surgery. This patient population comes from approximately 75% Emergency surgery and the critical care area’s which creates an acute and dynamic working environment.  The gastroenterology unit cares for those with advanced and complex liver disease, as well as those with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. TPN and fistula management is also a key part of care provided on 8 West. The Victorian Liver Transplant Unit provides liver transplantation services for all of Victoria, Tasmania, and parts of Southern New South Wales and performed Australia’s first intestinal transplant in 2010.


As an ANUM on 8 West you will be involved in:

Essential Knowledge and skills:

  · Registered Nurse, Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

  · Substantial clinical experience in area of speciality, including at least 3 years nursing experience.

  · Demonstrated leadership ability, with a clear understanding of the managerial responsibilities of the ANUM role.

  · Patient-centred approach to evidence based care delivery

  · Demonstrated knowledge of professional standards

  · Knowledge of legal and ethical requirements

  · Demonstrated ability to use clinical information systems

  · Commitment to quality, best practice and environmental safety

  · Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form

  · Ability to problem solve in a variety of complex situations

  · Ability to clinically lead a dynamic team which works effectively and display commitment to Austin Health Values
