Position Summary

An exciting opportunity currently exists for enthusiastic and highly motivated nurses to undertake a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Nursing in Surgical specialty.

Austin Health works in collaboration with Australian Catholic University to deliver the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Nursing which consists of four (4) subjects specific to the area of study undertaken. At Austin Health we follow a best practice clinical learning environment philosophy and as such deliver education using contemporary teaching modalities with an emphasis on experiential learning with a particular focus on bedside teaching and learning. Subjects are assessed from both theoretical and clinical perspectives.

The Division of Surgery, Anaesthetics and Procedural Medicine includes the whole patient journey consisting of Surgical Access, Perioperative Services, Anaesthetics and Theatre Support, Cardiac Services and Specialty Services, Gastroenterology, Transplant and General Surgery and finally Orthopaedic, Plastic and ENT surgery.

Also Surgical wards include 8 West, 8 East, 8 north and 5 East, The Surgery Centre Ward, and Specialist and Endoscopy Centre. Also the Surgery Centre and Austin Operating Suites.

Essential Knowledge and skills:

  • A commitment to Austin Health values.
  • Registered Nurse registered with the AHPRA
  • At least 6 months experience in relevant clinical area
  • Demonstrated commitment to surgical nursing
  • Ability to meet academic and clinical standards
  • Ability to communicate effectively on both written and verbal form.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment,
  • Commitment to further self-development and education.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and team skills
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve

Desirable but not essential:

  • A sound understanding of information technology including clinical systems, applications relevant to the Management of rostering and risk management reporting or as required for the role and/or department.
  • Knowledge of legal/ethical requirements and professional standards
  • Patient centred approach to care delivery
  • Commitment to quality, best practice and environmental safety.
