Position Summary

Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic Health Assistant in Nursing to join our team on Ward 8 West. 8 West is a dynamic and busy 32-bed surgical ward caring for Liver Transplant, Gastroenterology and Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB/T) surgical patients.  

The 8 West patient profile is made up of patients who are admitted via the Emergency Department, Elective Surgery, Direct admissions from other health intuitions and from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The 8 West team consists of nursing, medical, allied health and support staffs, which are team orientated and striving to achieve the best possible care outcomes to our patients.

The Health Assistant Nursing (HAN) works as an assistant to the health care team, assisting the registered and enrolled nurses to provide delegated aspects of patient care.  Elements of direct and indirect patient care will be delegated in accordance with the professional judgement of the supervising registered nurse and in accordance with the level of achieved educational preparation and assessed competence of the individual HAN.

Essential Criteria for Position   

  • Hold a Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (HLT32512 or HLT33115) with acute care elective units or similar
  • Have previous experience as a HAN in acute nursing - desirable

Selection Criteria Essential: Completed Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (HLT32512 or HLT33115) with acute care elective units
Desirable: Experience as a Health Assistant in Nursing in an acute hospital setting
