The Role

In this role you will join a supportive and dynamic Social Work and Allied Health leadership team. As the Grade 4 you will be responsible for providing advanced clinical social work practice to referred patients who have a cancer diagnosis and are receiving care or treatment at Austin Hospital. You will be recognised as a clinical expert and will manage / lead an Oncology Social Work Clinical Stream to support clinical and team operations. You will be a leader in Social Work and Allied Health and will participate in the leadership and strategic agenda. 

Key responsibilities will see you:

  • apply your advanced skills and knowledge to assess, treat, and plan the discharge of patients
  • provide expert advice and secondary consultation within the clinical area, Social Work Department and other areas as required
  • manage / lead the Oncology Social Work Clinical Stream clinical operations
  • undertake a range of activities eg: teaching, training, supervision to develop social work capability and performance 
  • create and support positive workplace culture
  • manage / lead a portfolio in the Social Work Department
  • lead a culture of quality improvement, project work, innovation and research activities
  • work collaboratively with the Social Work Manager, Chief Allied Health Officer, Social Work leadership team, other leaders and professionals 
  • be an active member of the Social Work Department leadership group, support and contribute to the department’s operations and strategic direction
  • represent Social Work and Allied Health (as a senior social worker) on Austin Health Committees and external meetings

You must have:

  • A degree in Social Work and at least 10 years experience

Ideally you will have:

  • previously worked in a hospital setting
  • experience in leading a team
  • experience in supervision, and developing the competence and capability of social workers 
  • applied understanding of cancer services or acute care
