Ward 7 East is a 32 bed Acute Medical Ward belonging to the Division of Medical Services.  Ward 7E is currently operating as an Acute General Medical ward, the single rooms will be allocated to COVID or infectious patients as the need arises.  We pride ourselves on our successful response to COVID from 2020 - 2023 and have been recognised for our efforts in keeping patients and staff safe.

Primary patient flow comes from the Emergency Department, our secondary patient flow comes from the critical care areas.  We are a busy unit and play a key role in patient flow and access across the hospital.

The Ward Clerk Position requires you to do the following:

  • To collaborate with nursing staff and promote excellent customer service, which delivers prompt and efficient response to patients/relatives and colleagues.
  • Communicate effectively and promote a supportive team approach within the ward to ensure good working relationship.
  • Answer phones promptly & professional and be able to re-direct calls to relevant people/areas.
  • Always ensure patient/staff confidentiality in accordance with the Privacy Act.
  • Maintain medical records including file reports and ensure adequate supply of patient labels.
  • Maintain ward-related records and databases as directed.
  • To screen and appropriately prioritise all telephone calls and enquiries for the Inpatient Unit.
  • To receive, sort and prioritise all Inpatient correspondence.
  • Photocopy, collate and finish documents and reports, filing as required.
  • Where appropriate, respond to all relevant correspondence and requests for information.
  • Ensure timely communication of information.
  • To make timely appointments and distribute discharge information to patients and GP’s, where relevant.
  • Facilitate interpreter bookings as required.
  • Help with the up keep of the ward and ensure maintenance and repairs of equipment is promptly attended to.
