Position Summary

An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic Cardiology Heart Failure Fellow to join our Cardiology Department for a 12-month Fellowship position from February 2025.

About the department:

The Cardiology Department is responsible for the provision of an extensive range of cardiac services to inpatients and outpatients including general cardiology, electrophysiology, heart failure service, echocardiography, cardiac catheterisation, interventional procedures, and non-invasive diagnostic procedures.

Details of position/position requirements:

  • Provide heart failure patient assessment, consultation and management for inpatients and outpatients across Austin Health.
  • Develop competence in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS).
  • Understand and apply the indications for device therapy in heart failure (pacemakers and ICDs).
  • Review and participate in the management of patients with cardiogenic shock.
  • Understand the role of intra-aortic balloon pumps and mechanical circulatory supports.
  • Assist (where applicable) in invasive diagnostic procedures including right heart studies and endomyocardial biopsies.
  • Telehealth advice and support to Austin Health nurse practitioners, general practitioners and community nurses with the overall aim of managing heart failure patients at home rather than hospital where appropriate.

To be successful in this role you must have completed core training in Cardiology.
