Position Summary

Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced Nurse Unit Manager to join our Child Inpatient Unit.

The Child Inpatient Unit is part of Austin Health's Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS). It services children from metropolitan and regional areas of Victoria, NSW and Tasmania at present. The Unit has 12 beds and is based at the Austin Hospital. The Unit admits children 13 years for assessment and treatment (planned and crisis admissions). Children are often admitted to the Unit with their parent/carer and/or further family (i.e. siblings).

The Nurse Unit Manager is recognised as the leader in the team who models the core values of Austin Health through effective leadership and management of the staff within the Child Inpatient Unit. The Nurse Unit Manager is responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of evidence-based nursing care that meets professional, organisational, legal and ethical standards in order to optimise health outcomes for the community. It is a great time to join this service with considerable opportunities for expansion following the implementation of the recommendations from the Royal Commission into Victoria's mental health systems.

You must have a valid Victorian Driver’s Licence. Work is primarily based at our Heidelberg site, with the team providing intensive outreach, telehealth and clinic-based care (with selected headspaces). You may be directed to work at other locations at times.
