Position Summary

Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation. 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and enthusiastic medical practitioners to join our team as an  Endocrine & General Surgery Fellow in the  Upper Gastrointestinal and Endocrine Surgery unit for the  2025 Clinical Year (commencing  February 2025).    

Details of Department 

The Upper Gastrointestinal/Endocrine Surgery Unit is part of the Division of Surgery, Anaesthesia & Procedural Medicine.  It is responsible for the provision of services within Upper GI and Endocrine surgery as well as elective and emergency general surgery to patients across Austin Health, situated at Austin Hospital and Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital.  

Details of positions available and position requirements 

The objective of this position is to: 

  • Further your training in Endocrine Surgery involving medical and surgical management of selected endocrine disorders.
  • Participate in clinical research.
  • Provide Leave cover in endocrine surgery and general surgery for Unit consultants either for outpatients or theatre.
  • Provide support to resident and Registrar medical staff through direction and supervision of patient management.
  • Participate in teaching duties.
  • Support emergency work to be done in hours and on call work out of hours .
  • Participate in the on call roster.

To be successful in this role you must: 

  • Display a commitment to Austin Health values.
  • Be registered as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) - (note eligible applicants will be assisted through this process). 
  • Have appropriate training and experience applicable to the field of Endocrine Surgery. 
  • Demonstrate commitment to high quality patient care.

In addition to Austin Health public appointment, the successful applicant will be required to assist endocrine surgery cases in the Private Hospital system, and this will more than double the case numbers you will attend.
