About Austin Health Pathology

Austin Health Pathology is a department of Austin Health and provides services to not only Austin Health and the co-located Mercy Hospital for Women, but also to numerous GPs and Specialists in the Melbourne metropolitan and the Victorian regional community.

About the role

The Principal Scientist, Microbiology is a recognised discipline leader within Austin Health Pathology and is responsible for the operational management of the Microbiology Laboratory.

The role requires a high level of interpretive, scientific, management, operational and interpersonal skills, which includes managing the Microbiology Laboratory budget and has overall scientific responsibility for the analysis and reporting of existing Microbiology tests.

About you

To be successful in this role you'll bring with you:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Medical Science, Applied Science, or an equivalent qualification as recognised by AIMS.
  • Relevant experience in a routine diagnostic Microbiology laboratory (minimum of 10 years).
  • Deatailed understanding of NATA and NPAAC accreditation requirements.
  • Strong leadership qualities and work ethic, with an ability to perform to a high standard in a busy and multi-tasked work environment.
  • High level communicaton skills (written and verbal).
