Position Summary

Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation. 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and enthusiastic medical practitioners to join our team as an Advanced Endoscopy Fellow in the Gastroenterology Unit for the 2025 Clinical Year (commencing February 2025)  

Details of Department 

The Endoscopy Service at Austin Health is part of the Surgery, Anaesthesia and Procedural Medicine Division. The Unit is one of the state’s largest, providing both advanced and basic endoscopic procedures to patients across Austin Health, situated at Austin Hospital and Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital. The Head of Endoscopy is Dr Rhys Vaughan. 

The Gastroenterology Unit Director is Dr Josephine Grace. 

 

The Unit is committed to the provision of high quality patient care and maintains an ongoing commitment to Under Graduate and Post Graduate teaching. Also provided is a consultative service for other Units within Austin Health. 

Details of position requirements: 

The objective of this position is to provide an Endoscopy Fellow role to: 

  • Further training in Endoscopy, in particular Advanced Endoscopic techniques. 
  • Provide leave cover for Unit consultants either for outpatient’s clinics or Endoscopy sessions. 
  • Provide support and teaching to Resident and Registrar medical staff through direction and management of patients. 
  • Support emergency Endoscopy work. 

To be successful in this role you must: 

  • A commitment to Austin Health values. 
  • Registered Medical Practitioner in Australia. 
  • Completion of basic training requirements of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians as well as at least 2 years’ core training in Gastroenterology. 
  • Have appropriate training and experience applicable to the field of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
